SOUL AWAKENING – a powerful phase in our Soul Evolution

“Soul Awakening” is the term I use to describe the first of the six stages of Soul Evolution – it is a phase of powerful and significant spiritual change. It is at that point in life when you receive a “wake up call” from your higher self or soul and you are being asked to allow a more spiritual dimension to enter your life. It seems many people are currently receiving such “wake up calls” so I thought I’d share a few thoughts about this phase in our soul evolution with you.

Although Soul Awakening is the first stage in the soul evolution cycle – even very experienced spiritual practitioners have to pass through this phase each and every time they begin to access new and more profound levels of consciousness or start a new phase of soul growth.

The soul evolution cycle is constantly repeating and is like a myriad of spirals [rather than circles]. Also the soul evolution cycles repeat within themselves. There are spirals within spirals! So rather confusingly, you can be at a “Soul Awakening” phase at one level and at another level you may be at the Soul Gateway stage. And you may spend your whole incarnation principally focussing on just one soul evolution phase, although during that lifetime, you will continuously be passing through the other stages at other levels. I said it was confusing!!

There are various “symptoms” or “signs” of Soul Awakening, I wonder if you have experienced any of these of late? They can include feeling under immense pressure [in the same way that intense pressure and heat is needed to form a diamond in the depths of the earth – our Soul goes through a similar process when awakening to a new level of consciousness]. Sometimes we could think of having a cosmic soul seed at the core of our beings – and in order for the seed to cosmically “germinate” and the seed shell to open, certain conditions have to prevail [these “conditions” can take the form of various life challenges which seem to create the right degree of cosmic fuel to help bring about a spiritual metamorphosis].

For our light to shine out, we sometimes need “help” to open the portals of our soul; and that “help” can occur in the form of a series of life events, which might seem challenging in the extreme – they can literally feel heart breaking as the cosmic shell is opened.

But Soul Awakening is not necessarily a painful or difficult process. Think of it as the Universe trying to get our attention and once we acknowledge these “wake up calls” or “prompts”, it can be a profoundly meaningful and even joyful time [although not necessarily easy and comfortable]. It is a process that becomes easier over time. Once we have consciously passed through the Soul Awakening phase several times in one lifetime, we begin to recognise the patterns and know how to manage it – and pass through it more rapidly, with greater ease. Look back over your own spiritual journey that has brought you to this point and see if you can resonate with this pattern in any way and recognise the various points in your life when you were passing through this Soul Awakening phase.

Usually the most helpful way to manage this phase is to accept that you are being offered access to a new level of consciousness and then become willingly open to it. How to do this effectively? I recommend regular daily meditation + perhaps some form of spiritual study + extra efforts to keep yourself grounded and support your physical being.

Once we can acknowledge that what is happening in our life is actually occurring in order to serve our higher self, then interestingly the life challenges often seem to diminish because they have served their purpose – they have got our attention!

Finally, if you feel you are passing through a Soul Awakening phase in your life, please know that this is an immensely powerful, positive and important time in your life – I wish you many blessings of light as you take this next precious step on your sacred journey.

EXPECTATIONS – the mind trap that is guaranteed to set you up for stress, frustration and disappointment

Not only does this mind trap lead us to feeling irritable and exhausted but it can cause stress and harm to those around us because we can become very demanding as we seek absolute control and perfection from everyone and everything around us!

Do you ever tend to place unrealistic expectations on yourself, your family or life in general? Do you allow yourself to accept the unrealistic expectations of others to affect how you live your life?

When our expectations are not met exactly as we want, we experience feelings of intense frustration. It can be a huge cause of stress because we use so much energy trying to make things unfold exactly as we want them. It is exhausting for us, as well as everyone else around us.

When we are caught in the grip of the expectations trap we can become very demanding. We are probably not aware of the effect we are having on others around us. Because our needs are so extreme, we control every detail, and we can end up pushing others away from us.

When we invest greatly in something or someone, then we tend to expect a far greater return. This is so often seen between parents and children. The parent is desperate for the child to live up to their expectations. Quite possibly these expectations have been passed down through the generations.

The child will almost certainly rebel in some way or the other. And if this pattern is not healed, they may, in time also pass on their expectations to their own children!

The same can be true of a creative project or anything which we have poured a lot of time and energy into. If the final result doesn’t match the vision we had at the outset or the response of others is not what we hoped, we can experience bitter disappointment.

Try to remember to enjoy the ‘process’ of creating rather than just focussing on the final outcome or result.

When we are trying to get our expectations met we can become very demanding. And if things don’t work out the way we want them to, sometimes we can get very truculent and almost childish. It is generally not a very endearing scenario.

Perfectionism often accompanies unrealistic expectations. We may find ourselves saying “it would be perfect if only ……“ and then we qualify the experience in some way. We will also often refer to situations using words such as “should”, “ought” and “must”.

Interestingly, on the rare occasions when an expectation is exactly met, fulfilled in every way; we may experience only a momentary sense of pleasure and satisfaction. Almost straightaway, we will start looking at what we want next and how it should be fulfilled.

When we place unrealistic or unnecessary expectations on ourselves or others, inevitably we will experience disappointment, frustration and even anger. It is so often better to set achievable and realistic goals. Once these are attained, we get more energy to motivate us to move forward.

However, this does NOT mean we should stop dreaming, nor should we restrict our ambitions and hopes. Far from it. The remedy is not to start “playing it safe”.

Have a vision of what you wish for but be flexible and open to other possibilities. Remember, our expectations can actually limit our options and restrict what can come into our lives.

Try to discern between “expectation” and “expectancy”. Expectancy helps us to be receptive and open to all sorts of possibilities – it has an air of excitement and anticipation about it. Whereas the “expectations trap” has a much more passive energy. We tend to wait for something to be delivered; often with a preconceived idea of exactly what form that delivery should take! And if it should fail to meet our “expectations” in any way, we are likely to feel very annoyed and disappointed.

When you give, do so without any expectation of something in return. Aim to give unconditionally and accept whatever gifts life brings you with graciousness and gratitude; even if it is unexpected. With this openness you may find some wonderful and unexpected gifts coming your way.

What motivates our expectations? When we expect great things from ourselves or our children; is it because we are truly striving for excellence? Or is it because we want to show the world what we have achieved; in other words, is pride fuelling these expectations?

If a long anticipated ‘special event’ does not go to plan, it is natural to feel disappointment. But if we can learn to let go of our attachment to perfection and control, we will end up feeling a lot happier. It is so much more helpful to accept that life rarely turns out exactly as we wish or expect. With a more philosophical approach we will feel more content and relaxed.

There are various strategies to help us overcome the expectations mind trap, including acceptance [accepting what we simply cannot control or change – as well as accepting our “humanness”] – authenticity [honouring our true nature] – mindfulness [which leads to greater self-awareness] – compassion [kindness towards ourselves and others, so we become more understanding about our frailties and limitations. And humour – sometimes things just do not turn out as expected; and sometimes the only thing we can do about that is laugh!

Having unrealistic and demanding expectations is likely to set you up for disappointment, frustration and resentment. But being open, receptive and in a state of expectancy will help you to receive all that is good in life.

So choose today to live in the real world, accept reality with all its uncertainties and imperfections; then your life will become so much easier and more joyful.

Let go of the fantasies and start relishing the much more exciting ‘real life’ adventures which can unfold as you follow your sacred path through this life.

WILL YOU JOIN US IN MEDITATION TO BRING PEACE AND LIGHT ON TO EARTH?

For many years I have been part of a group of Lightworkers who “meet” etherically [by this I mean we link up distantly – we are not actually physically sitting together] to meditate. We connect around the times of the Full and New Moon every month. Our meditations are ‘synchronised’ or ’linked’ – so we come together, united in our wish to generate thoughts of peace, love and light.

I am part of just one small group but we know that there are many thousands of people from all walks of life across the globe meditating at these key times. And I never ceased to be amazed by the power of these linked meditations. Although I am sitting in my usual sacred space at home – all alone – at times it feels as if I am in a huge temple of light joined by a great number of other fellow Lightworkers. It is an extraordinarily powerful and uplifting experience. And I would love you to join us if it feels right for you.

Simply aim to meditate for about 20 – 30 minutes at any time during the 12 hours preceding or following the time of the new or full moon [dates & times are given below]. You do not have to join in at the exact time.

Doing this will create a 24 hour “window of meditation” in which many people will be meditating.

For these linked meditations, I often visualise being seated in a sacred space in a great circle of light with a group of fellow light workers, united in a wish to serve higher purpose for the greater good of all sentient beings. There is often a source of celestial light in the centre of the group. This space could be a temple-like building or a sacred place in nature – there are no rules – please work in whatever way is right for you and how you feel guided. The intention is always the most important factor. My intention and heartfelt wish will include a commitment to serve the light to the best of my ability and unite in the name of love for all that is good and true.

The recent sad world events can surely only deepen our commitment to bring more light, love, understanding and compassion into this world. This quote by Martin Luther King Jnr. reminds us of the importance of generating thoughts of light and love, even in difficult times.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

The dates and times of the upcoming meditations for 2015 are given below: All times are given using the 24 hour clock and are in GMT [so please remember to add an hour for British Summertime after 29th March to 25th October]. Ideally aim to meditate at some point 12 hours prior to or after the time of the full or new moon. If you wish to meditate more than once, please do.

HUMOUR a powerful [but often underrated] spiritual tool

Humour is a valuable and much under-estimated tool to help overcome negativity and dissolve obstacles.

When we allow ourselves to see the humour within a difficult situation it ceases to have such a powerful hold over us.  Humour helps us cope better with challenging situations.  Also, when we ‘lighten up’ and see the funny side of a problem, we get a new perspective.

Humour does not mean we are not taking life seriously.  And it does not mean being disrespectful.  Also it most certainly does not mean laughing at others or ridiculing them in any way.

Sometimes we just need to decide lighten up and not take life [or ourselves] quite so seriously; to retrieve our sense of humour and see the funny side of things.

Laughter really can be the best medicine sometimes. We often forget the feel good factor that comes when we laugh. Remember a jolly good belly laugh causes you to release feel-good endorphins which can be both healing and stress relieving.  Sometimes a good laugh is as helpful as a good cry. And much more enjoyable!

Remember to make time to try to take part in activities which you find enjoyable and fun. Whether it is seeing a funny film or going out with a group of friends who make you laugh.

Humour is a grossly underrated spiritual tool. Laughter literally transmutes negativity and dissolves obstacles. It is a far more powerful strategy than most people realise.  It is an excellent way of releasing fear and tension. Laughter is also an excellent way of releasing old patterns, and dissolving blocks.   Some people feel better when they have had a very good cry; and it is true that is an effective technique. But actually to go out and have a really good giggle can be just as powerful and effective.  And it is a lot more fun!

Many spiritual Masters and Teachers are very jolly and full of mirth, particularly the Buddhist teachers. There is very little they seem to take seriously. These humorous happy people are great role models.

Interestingly, when we lighten our mood with good humour, we unconsciously cleanse the atmosphere around us.   We raise the vibration.

Whether it is in work situations, personal relationships or family life; if you are happy and joyful you will naturally create a positive vibration around you.  Others will find you more attractive and be more well-disposed towards you.  You will be amazed how this simple strategy can transform your life!

ACCEPTANCE The strategy that can dissolve life’s obstacles

Acceptance is a strategy that has the power to dissolve all the tensions and stresses created by so many of life’s obstacles and challenges.  Once we can accept change in our lives or accept there are some things that we simply cannot control, happiness and joy can flow effortlessly into our lives! When we greet all that is presented to us in life with calm acceptance, the pressure is relieved.  We expand our consciousness and feel more relaxed. Serenity and peace prevail.

Also choosing acceptance as a strategy can increase our abundance and give us a greater sense of contentment and peace of mind.

Please note, acceptance does not mean apathy.  Nor does it mean sacrifice. But it does help you to relinquish the need to control every aspect of your life and [especially important] to let go of all that is beyond your control.  Also it can make you more aware of what is not actually your responsibility to control!

Also please note, we have to utilise discernment and common sense when using this strategy. To be passive and accepting does not mean tolerating any abusive or unacceptable behaviour, in any circumstances.  Acceptance definitely does not preclude self-care and self-respect!

When we make time to meditate and reflect on how we can increasingly implement the strategy of “acceptance” into our lives we come to realise how acceptance can smooth our path to enlightenment and joy.

Acceptance is a subtle strategy; easy to misinterpret.  It is not the same as surrender.  Be open, flexible and understanding but do not feel you have to give in or give way. It is not ab out being submissive. It can be a difficult strategy because it requires non-action.  Sometimes the hardest thing to do is nothing.  Many of us love to take action and ‘do something’ to resolve a situation or problem.

Acceptance suggests we focus on more stillness, being receptive and accepting of what life is presenting to us at this very moment in time.

To draw fully upon acceptance, we need a level of wisdom and understanding.  Also we need to trust that at the highest level our needs will be met by the Universe.  Once equipped in this way, then we can accept with equanimity the circumstances in which we find ourselves and the challenges we face.

Acceptance is an ideal strategy to combat attachment.  When we are battling to overcome a challenge or striving to achieve something, our position can become very entrenched and fixed.  When we accept the loss or let go of the desire for something, then the universal energies soften, free up and flow more easily.

When we cease to resist, solutions are effortlessly revealed to us and often that which we so desperately desired and yearned for finally does come to us.

Acceptance can increase our abundance in life, because we judge and control far less, so we stop filtering and blocking all that comes into our lives.  We trust far more.  Our child-like innocence allows the universe to surprise and delight us with many gifts we had not even thought to ask for!

At a spiritual level, when we can accept the ending or final stages of something, we also are able to sense a cycle of life and how the ending of one situation is usually the precursor to the beginning of another.  For a metaphorical new door to open, or a new beginning to commence, often there needs to be at least some level of acceptance of the ending of some stage of life or a process of completion.

If you can fully embrace the quality of acceptance, you will find that contentment and peace of mind will automatically flow into your life.  The need to fight and strive will cease. You can be happy with whatever situation you find yourself in and whatever is happening around you.

There is a great and powerful stream of universal energy that runs through life. We can flow effortlessly with that stream or choose to try to swim against it. I think the easiest solution is obvious!  Choose acceptance now and allow happiness and joy to flow effortlessly into your life!

A time for TRANSCENDENCE?

I have attracted this inspiration card in several of my Life Guidance readings recently.  I feel this is one of the most potent Inspiration Cards in the Life Guidance & Inspiration deck.

Not only is it a powerful strategy to help guide one’s day to day life in a positive way, it also can serve as a type of cosmic signpost and blessing, indicating that a profound spiritual shift in consciousness is possible.

However, transcendence as a point of spiritual focus can sometimes be as challenging as it is inspirational!

Talking to other spiritual practitioners, many of us have a sense that a major shift in consciousness is taking place on a global scale – that more and more people are seeking to find a higher meaning in their lives.  There is a desperate need for us to rise above our personal agendas and see the global impact of our actions and thoughts.

In other words – THIS IS A TIME FOR TRANSCENDENCE.

At a spiritual level transcendence urges us to move closer towards our true celestial natures and become greater than anything we have been so far. It encourages us to evolve at a soul level and to progress further along our sacred path – to be the best versions of ourselves. And in so doing we inspire, guide and lead others.

At a basic level, as a way of dealing with a life challenge Transcendence is usually advising us to “rise above” a situation – to respond with spiritual tranquility and a celestial perspective. In other words seeing the whole picture from a more spiritual viewpoint and not get embroiled in personality and ego-driven details. [Easier said than done!]

At another level, when we receive the Transcendence card [and I know this from personal experience!] we are often being put on alert that we are being offered an opportunity to rise above [i.e. transcend] a situation. In other words the challenges we are facing [or are about to face] are there to help us flex and strengthen our “spiritual muscles” and demonstrate that we have developed certain spiritual skills and are now able to apply them in daily life.

I always find this card to be a timely reminder to see beyond the mundane and rise above life’s challenges; to transcend all the petty irritations of daily life and let Light into my life. I need to ensure that it is my higher mind that is guiding me.  Once I can do this then I can let go of all the perfectionism tendencies, attachments and expectations.  For me, the best way to connect to my higher mind is to make more time for reflection and meditation.  I know it is not easy to find the time and space for this, but I do recommend it! But if that is not possible, then go and find a quiet space for a few moments and breathe deeply and focus on the spiritual dimensions of life.

It may be helpful to slow down the pace of your life – if possible, separate from the many distractions of daily life – try to get a sense of the “bigger picture” – although you are an individual you also form part of a collective group energy – realise that your actions and thoughts affect everyone and everything. Aim to respond in the most appropriate way which brings out the best in all concerned and serves the greater good.

Whatever the difficulties that arise at this time, always your best course of action will be compassion and wisdom. It is especially important that you do not engage in any form of competitiveness nor allow pride and ego to guide you. But rather try to adopt an attitude of benevolence, compassion and understanding. The greater the challenge you face, then the greater the opportunity for you to evolve as a spiritual being.

Transcendence is a Cosmic Blessing – it is an incredible gift which allows us to see the potential within our life and the lives of all those around us.  There is no space for a sense of superiority, with this blessing comes the responsibility to serve all life forms selflessly.

If you resonate with this quality as you read this, please aim to respond with conscious awareness – choose the kindest and most compassionate actions, regardless of the circumstances that face you. You could be at a crossroads in your life – facing a time of major re-evaluation.  You may now need to make a huge life choice which will have far reaching consequences in many areas of your life.

Transcendence is a quality which can create a cosmic portal for you, allowing you to rise above mundane and earthly concerns, so you can raise your consciousness and become more aligned to your higher purpose and move forward on your Sacred Path.
